Who's the more foolish?

Our builder delayed our house closing AGAIN yesterday. It was supposed to happen on Monday. They're saying it will just be later in the week next week, but I have no trust in anything they tell me anymore.

Backing up a sec - this is the same builder who told us the day before our original closing at the end of October that we were going to be delayed two more months. Then, in mid December, they announced it was being pushed off again until mid to end of January.

If closing doesn't happen next week, my husband and I are - once again - screwed. Because it's the end of the month. Our lease is up. We'll be homeless.

Fool me once...

Even Han Solo and Chewbacca got to go home in the latest Star Wars movie.
Don't rub it in, Han.
Gonna get a long run in this weekend and not "dwell" on it.

I've been dealing with some nausea, so I think today is my last day on the egg fast. I've read up on others' experiences doing an egg fast, and think this may just be a touch of low carb flu.

Or maybe eating 45 eggs over a three day period is really too much.

I will mention this though - my low carb insomnia seems to be subsiding. I've been dealing with it for almost two months now. There's lots of tips and articles geared towards helping you fall asleep (this one is pretty good) but my problem was staying asleep.

So imagine how excited I was when I actually overslept the other night - woke up at 6:25! I haven't done that in quite some time. We'll see where it goes from here.

Pirate Christmas

While running yesterday, I noticed that the homes of Tampa have all traded in their Christmas lights for pirate flags, and replaced wreaths made of holly with wreaths made of feathers, bandanas, and all kinds of scalawag things. You can't get your photo taken with Santa in the center of Hyde Park Village anymore, but any of the roving buccaneers will be happy to pose for a selfie with you.

A wreath perfect for a pirate.
It's all very shiver me timbers.

Which means one thing... it's time for the Gasparilla Pirate Festival! I really have no idea what this means since this is my first year as a Tampa Bay resident, but methinks it's going to involve a lot of booze. It could fit interestingly into my New Year's Resolution to have more fun. I have to give it some thought as to how I want to participate without necessarily getting wasted. That doesn't really fit into my goals so much this year.

Speaking of new years, I learned that I was actually faster than the average female runner in 2015. Bully!

Of course, my average pace in 2016 isn't what it was last year. Ah well. It's still early in the year, Anyway, you can check out how you stack up and see other interesting running statistics here. Apparently, Florida made the top three for flattest terrain, but the shocker was that it wasn't #1! To think, I'm actually missing the rolling hills of New Jersey.

In other running news, apparently you only need to run 6 miles a week to improve your health... at a pace of 10 min/mi though. I wonder what the target is for people like me running 16-minute miles.

I still wanted to do something to get my mood and overall well-being on track after recognizing that quitting coffee cold turkey wasn't going to work out, so I started an egg fast again. This time, I'm following the rules as written to see if there's a different outcome.

Also, I've been nutritionally "off-roading" over the last week, so I'm thinking this is what I need to get me back on track.

Join me, and together we can rule the galaxy... or just quit sugar.

My New Year's Resolution to have more fun keeps getting ruined by weather. The cold prevented me from doing a beach run last weekend and slightly hindered my full enjoyment of last week's bowl game. Today, my husband and I were supposed to go on a hot air balloon ride but it was canceled because of fog.

No worries. Gonna try a do-over on my beach run tomorrow and possibly go see Star Wars again tonight. I think I may see this movie in every format offered:
I don't always run to the movies, but when I do, it's to see Star Wars
Please, Disney, take all of my money. Thanks.
I went off my egg diet today and felt kind of meh afterwards. I mean, I still ate eggs for breakfast but introduced other things throughout the day. Plus I went out to breakfast, so maybe my omelette wasn't as clean as I thought it was.

Sometime ago, I wondered what Tom Brady ate. Now I know. No sugar, no flour... sounds familiar. I do eat like an athlete!

Even Tom Brady's chef mentions how problematic sugar is in the article. But how does someone who is sugar addicted get off the white stuff? I watched a short video today called "How to finally kick sugar to the curb," but I don't think it delivered the secret. It talks about reduction, but moderation doesn't work for an addict.

You can wait until more research about a hormone called fibroblast growth factor 21 comes out. Apparently this hormone is responsible for reducing sugar cravings.

Or you can do what I did and just cut it out completely by eating a bunch of eggs or by doing a two week carbohydrate intolerance test. I didn't even miss sugar because I replaced it with healthy fats.

100% abstinence. That's what is working for me.

That little droid is causing me some trouble.

I'm going to go ahead and say the Garmin sleep tracker is off. Had another rough night last night, but the sleep tracker tried to tell me it was an improvement over the night before:

My Garmin running watch shares some sleep data.
I woke up quite a few times throughout the night, but this says I was awake for 2 mins.
I've been somewhat flippant here about my lack of sleep, but it's pretty distressing. Especially when you read articles that say you lose strength and brain power after prolonged periods of insomnia, and there's no repaying your sleep debt.

So I'm thinking it's time to try adding a few more carbs back in. But not until tomorrow.

I'm wrapping up a four-day egg diet today, which was my own adaptation of an egg fast. The purpose? Kick-starting some weight loss, getting a healthy dose of a good source of protein and lots of fats, and preventing any further urges to binge during a very stressful week alone.

I didn't follow the egg fast rules as written, which only allow for 1 tbsp of fat per egg consumed and some cheese. I used heavy cream throughout the day... and included spinach with my eggs. I probably watched too much Popeye in a prior life, but I have a hard time totally forgoing veggies.

I'm on day four and achieved two of my three objectives. I don't think I lost any weight, but I don't use a scale so I can't be positive. I think the greatest benefit was that I really didn't have to think about food at all - I didn't waste precious mental energy on deciding what I wanted to eat.

I did notice a bit of a slow down in my run times, though. But is it the diet? Or is it the fact that I also ran after work this week instead of before work (so I'm already kind of tired by the time I get out the door)? Or is it my lack of sleep catching up with me?

There's too many variables. It's making thinking, training, eating, and sleeping like an athlete really complex.

I might do it again in two weeks and stick to the rules of the egg fast as written to see if I can also achieve some of the weight loss benefits. If you're worried about me and my cholesterol, don't be - the USDA actually dropped it's recommendation to limit dietary cholesterol. And also cracked down on sugar. Bravo.
